Chris Nembhard

Chris began his professional journey in 1987, training as a dancer at the Bird Performing Arts School in Sidcup. Upon completing his dance studies, he joined a leading company in Birmingham Kukuma performing arts and toured Europe with the Sylvie Guillem Dance Company.

After a decade on stage—Chris redirected his creative energy toward therapy. He earned an MA in Dance Movement Psychotherapy from Goldsmiths, University of London, then in 2001 joined COVO as a training facilitator, specialising in therapeutic approaches to behaviour management and conflict resolution.

Chris’s clinical experience spans working in forensic mental health in the NHS and a mental-health charity, where he supported men with schizophrenia and personality disorders, as well as placements in several residential children’s homes providing supervision and therapeutic reflective practice for staff. Today, he works at OPD Housing and Accommodation Service (HASS), helping men with IPP prison sentences reintegrate back into the community.

For the past 32 years he’s been an active member of Soka Gakkai International—a global Buddhist organisation—where he has held national leadership responsibilities supporting men. He is also an active member of the Nation Committee leadership team.  He also returns regularly to Goldsmiths as a guest tutor, teaching conflict-resolution skills to social-work students.
