COVO Connecting Voices has developed an innovative model that uses a therapeutic approach which includes the arts, systemic thinking, movement and play.
According to systemic thinking, any system (family, school, organisation) is a group of interacting, interrelated, or interdependent elements forming a complex whole. Our approach is to consider the whole system to address any given problem. We explore the issues through engaging everyone involved within the system in a process of self-reflection.
We use the arts, movement and play for individuals and groups to engage creatively in a process to further their emotional, cognitive, physical and social integration.
The combination of these approaches constitute a unique formula, which enables participants to engage in an experiential reflective process. This process offers a chance to view issues from new perspectives and to ‘unlearn’ things accepted as knowledge, which may be obstructing progress or development.
Key features
- Co-creation: students, educators, communities and management collaborate on project development
- Empowerment focus: activities encourage agency, choice and self-direction
- Reflective practice: participants engage in thinking about one’s own experiences and act how to learn from them
- Creativity: Covo-led workshops keep the model agile, engaging and responsive
